The Naval Submarine League recently recognized Mr. Steve Schulze for his commitment to the submarine force by honoring him with the 2019 Distinguished Civilian Award. Schulze, currently Senior Vice President, Navy Technical Support Services with Patrona Corp, retired following 34 years of federal government service with the Navy, including Executive Director, Undersea Warfare Directorate (SEA 07); and Executive Director, Naval Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05). During his career, Schulze led the navy through some of its most challenging technical issues. Schulze assembled and led teams of technical experts and developed inspection, repair and restoration plans to recover from the GREENEVILLE/EHIME MARU collision, GREENEVILLE/OGDEN collision, HARTFORD grounding off La Maddalena, Sardinia, SAN FRANCISCO collision with a submerged sea mount, and the HARTFORD/NEW ORLEANS collision. In his remarks, Mr. Schulze credited his successful career to NAVSEA’s Command climate, mutually supportive partnerships with the Flag Officers, trusting and respectful relationships with industry, and the dedication and commitment of the NAVSEA workforce.
